coastal relations

Own the book companion, Diasporic Collage + Coastal Relations

Coastal Relations: Enacting Diaspora centers the shores of the Caribbean archipelago and North American mainland as focal points of intersecting diasporic communities. Through a collective of 14 multidisciplinary artists who explore memory and place to surface related histories of migration and displacement in coastal environments, this exhibition orchestrates a dialogue with the critical work of the Diaspora Solidarities Lab.

Moved by the writings of Martinican poet and philosopher Édouard Glissant (1928–2011), the exhibition situates an oceanic framework, emphasizing the sea’s depth as a connective force to illuminate the close dynamics between water and land.

The exhibition was collaboratively curated alongside its sister show, Diasporic Collage, presented at the MSU Broad Art Museum and CENTRO Gallery.
